L@titud Professional Development Activities

L@titud is Project Zero's Latin American Initiative toward Understanding and Development.

Professional Development Activities

Opening Seminar

The L@titud project was launched with a seminar entitled, "Toward a culture of understanding--generating and sustaining change among individuals, groups, organizations and educational systems" (Cambridge, MA. August 2001). The seminar gathered 51 influential agents of change from Latin America, including ministry of education representatives, award-winning community entrepreneurs (e.g., Ashoka Fellows), university researchers, organizational consultants, and exemplary teachers. The seminar goals were (a) To examine the ways in which Project Zero frameworks may inform innovations in the various settings in which Latin American educators work (schools, organizations, museums, educational systems); and (b) To establish a strong network of Latin American agents of change interested in promoting deep understanding. Support for this seminar was provided by the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies and The Atlantic Philanthropies/Project Zero Grant.

Online Courses Scholarships

L@titud and WIDE World partnered with the Organization of American States to offer scholarships for Latin American educators to participate in the following online courses: Teaching for Understanding I; Assessing for Understanding; Teaching for Understanding II; Multiple Intelligences, and Teaching Standards with new Technology. Two hundred and eighty four (284) scholarships were offered between September 2001 and December 2002.

Online Coaches Seminar

Given the rising demand for WIDEWorld on-line courses in Spanish, the L@titud project and WIDEWorld organized a course entitled Bridging the Gap: I Seminar of Latin American Online Coaches (Miami, July 2002). The seminar sought to identify and train future Latin-American coaches and to promote the exchange of experiences among educators working with Project Zero's frameworks in the region. The seminar gathered 43 educators from 13 Latin American countries, and was made possible by the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development of the Organization of American Sates, and the Universidad Nacional a Distancia de España (UNED).

Other Conferences and courses in Latin America

L@titud is supporting courses and conferences led by Latin American institutions on an ongoing basis.
