Research: Overview
Three strands of studies are carried out by the project:
- Our study of expert interdisciplinary work examines the social and epistemological qualities of interdisciplinary work taking place in leading institutions such as the MIT Media Lab and the Santa Fe Institute.
- Our study of collegiate and pre-collegiate interdisciplinary education examines the pedagogical and curriculum design challenges and opportunities among well established high schools and college programs such as Saint Paul's School in New Hampshire, and the Human Biology program at Stanford University.
- The Teachers Seminar is an action research study through which we seek to formalize elements of a quality education for interdisciplinary understanding at the pre-collegiate level. This study examines interdisciplinary pedagogies, student learning, and professional development in collaboration with exemplary teachers in Massachusetts.
