Project Zero Principal Investigator, Ben Mardell invites you for a special session with Natalia Kucirkova, Senior Research Fellow at the University College London Institute of Education on April 24th from 3:00pm-4:30pm. This session, Embracing personalized education with pluralization, will take place in the Nelson conference room (#429) at Project Zero, on the 4th Floor of Longfellow Hall (13 Appian Way, Cambridge, MA).

Embracing personalized education with pluralization:
In the Remembrance Project (Kucirkova & Littleton, 2017), we were interested in how an iPad app could facilitate children’s story-sharing at a community level. Over the course of six months, two classes of Year 4 children collected personal reminiscences and stories concerning wartime experiences from elder members of the community and documented their experiences in texts, pictures, and audio recordings, using iPads and additional web-based resources from a local archive. The possibility to personalize curriculum content at macro software level empowered teachers to effectively adopt and adapt new educational approaches, including the one of personalized pluralization. In this talk I will outline the concept of personalized pluralization and how it aligns with the adoption of personalized books at the local and international education levels.
Natalia Kucirkova is a Senior Research Fellow at the University College London Institute of Education. Her research concerns innovative ways of supporting children’s book reading, digital literacy and exploring the role of personalisation in early years. She developed an award-winning children’s app ‘Our Story’ and has widely published on early literacy and children’s technology. Her publications appeared in Communication Disorders Quarterly, First Language, Computers & Education or Cambridge Journal of Education. Natalia currently leads an ESRC-funded project focused on children’s personalised books (£231,560 FeC).Please RSVP to Ben at benjamin_mardell@harvard.edu by Wednesday, April 18.
